Toilet Cleaning Tricks
Why not begin with the most dreaded task at hand? Of course, we’re talking about scrubbing the toilet. There are many cleaners out there designed specifically for this daunting and smelly task, but don’t flush your money down the toilet just yet. All you really need is white vinegar.
White vinegar is all-natural and highly effective at killing mildew, mold, and bacteria. First, spray the toilet lid and seat with vinegar and wipe clean. You can clean the inside of the toilet with vinegar as well. For a long-lasting clean, take the lid off your toilet and pour vinegar inside. Now, you’re fighting off bacteria with every flush!
Mirror Cleaning Magic
From water stains to toothpaste, makeup, and those mystery spots that seem to come out of nowhere, the mirror seems to attract just about everything. To make matters worse, achieving a streak-free clean is nearly impossible. Here’s the solution: black tea.
Boil some water, throw in a few bags of black tea, then allow the tea to steep as the water cools. Add the cool water to a spray bottle and get to work! The secret is the tea’s tannic acid which dissolves dirt with ease. Wipe away with paper towels, newspaper, or coffee filters and enjoy a sparkly clean mirror that doesn’t cloud your vision any longer.
Wipe Out Water Spots
After your mirror is clean, shift your focus to the bathroom sink. What are you going to do about those pesky water spots? This trick might be the simplest of all—all you need is a lemon. Cut a lemon in half and rub it all over the chrome fixtures for an instant fix. This works on your shower head and knobs too. Plus, the lemony smell is a welcome odor eliminator!
Sparkling Shower Solution
Now that you’re inspired by the lemony-fresh scent of your nearly clean bathroom, move on to those stubborn shower stains. To remove soap scum, combine white vinegar and baking soda to create paste. Apply the paste and walk away for about 20 minutes. Next, scrub the paste away to reveal a cleaner, newer-looking shower. Make sure to rinse thoroughly. This solution can be slippery!
Bonus Tips:
- Add a drop or dish detergent or a few drops of hydrogen peroxide for even more potency.
- Vinegar and cornstarch work well too if you’re running short on backing soda.
- Apply Rain-X to glass shower doors to prevent water spots.
Bathtub Stain Buster
What is the key to battling bathtub rings? You might have guessed it. Once again, white vinegar comes to the rescue! Pour 3 cups of white vinegar into a tub full of hot tap water. Allow the water to sit for 4 hours then drain. This should loosen hard-water stains so that you can wipe them away easily.
You can also create a paste made of 2 parts baking soda and 1-part hydrogen peroxide. Apply the paste and allow it to set for about 30 minutes. Scrub the paste away and rinse thoroughly.
Don’t Forget to Disinfect Bath Toys
Bath toys can accumulate dirt and mildew over time, which can lead to sickness if your young child places these toys in their mouth. True, this is gross, but you don’t have to throw their favorite toys out just yet. Fill the tub with enough water to cover the toys completely. Add half a cup of white vinegar for every gallon of water. This removes bacteria without leaving a residue that’s harmful to your child.
A clean bathroom is important to the health of your home and the comfort of your daily grooming, but there are times when your bathroom is dirty and difficult no matter how much you clean.
